Uniquely International

At CEU there is no dominant national culture. Over 1,500 students come from more than 100 countries of five continents: faculty and staff — from more than 30. The language of communication and instruction is English, but students have ample opportunity to learn other European languages including Hungarian.

CEU’s unique international community exposes students to many different and sometimes opposing perspectives. The CEU experience thus fosters invaluable intercultural communication skills, and a deep understanding of  the ever-changing boundary between local universalism and global contextualism.

The university benefits from a unique combination of American, European and regional intellectual and academic traditions. It follows examples of the best US universities in research, teaching methods, and training of doctoral students. CEU also embodies the best in Europe’s scholarly traditions with their emphasis on culture, quality and social relevance of research and education.
